New Year, New You?

Happy New Year!! I hope you had a wonderful holiday and that your 2019 is off to a great start! Of course, it wouldn’t be a new year without resolutions, right? And those resolutions probably sound something like this: Go to the gym every day, eat healthier, drink less, make more money, find a better work/life balance. Sound familiar? While these are all great resolutions, let’s be honest, how many have you already broken and it’s only the 8th? I have a better solution.

I’ve never set New Year’s resolutions. Instead I always set goals, but this year I decided instead of calling them goals, I would call them intentions and I would create systems to make sure these intentions become reality. These systems are something I consistently do to increase my odds of success regardless of the immediate outcome. I am still working on creating some of these systems for my business but I can share with you one of my systems for being healthy that I began a few months ago.

Every weekday morning I get up by 5:15am and go straight to the gym. No thinking about it, no rationalizing why I should I stay in bed, none of that. I just get up and go. I used to get up most mornings by 6:15am to go workout, but it was always a struggle and one I didn’t always win. But I can thank my new studio https://www.turnstudio.com/ for my newly found early morning energy and it’s because they have a system! We have to sign up for each class and if we late cancel or don’t show up, we get charged. It’s pretty remarkable how the thought of losing money because you’re lazy will get you right out of bed in the morning! Yes, I could just wake up early and sign up right before my class but I promise you I wouldn’t always do it. It’s the system that works!

This year I added a new little system to my morning where I think about at least 5 things that I’m grateful for before getting out of bed. It is amazing how gratitude will help establish your mindset and intentions for the rest of your day.

In creating these systems, I have been reminded of a book by Darren Hardy called The Compound Effect that goes along with this whole school of thought. You should read it if you haven’t already! Buy it here: https://www.amazon.com/Compound-Effect-Darren-Hardy/dp/159315724X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1546978590&sr=8-1&keywords=the+compound+effect

I will be periodically blogging about my intentions and systems this year so look out for those posts. In the meantime, I hope you take some time to create your own systems and feel free to share them with me. Cheers to 2019 being the best year yet for you and your intentions!!
