Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms joined City officials and community stakeholders to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Westside Park at Bellwood Quarry.
The old quarry and the property around it is being converted into a new 300-acre park along Atlanta's Beltline, a 22-mile corridor of parks, trails, and transit encircling downtown. The new park will be the largest in the city and the quarry itself will become a sparkling 1.9-billion-gallon water reservoir that can provide water for the whole city of Atlanta for up to 30 days if needed.
